What is Speed Rack?
Speed Rack is an exclusively woman high-speed bartending competition designed to highlight up-and-coming self-identifying females in the cocktail industry and give back to those impacted by breast cancer. The competition in Speed Rack promises to be fierce, but so does the fundraising. To date, Speed Rack has raised over $1,000,000 globally for charities supporting breast cancer research.
Cofounded by bartenders Ivy Mix and Lynnette Marrero. In 2011, Mix approached Marrero, who was the president of the New York City chapter of LUPEC (Ladies United for the Preservation of Endangered Cocktails), about creating a competition to show case talented women in the craft cocktail world. The competition raises funds for Breast Cancer education, prevention and research, while promoting women bartenders in a largely male promoted industry.
While Speed Rack is just completing its 9th Season in the USA this will be the First year Cayman will be crowing their very own Miss Speed Rack Cayman. The Cayman Speed Rack season will be kicking off at The Bird on Monday September 27th at 8pm. 14 bartenders will be racing against the clock to get the fastest times. Their cocktails will be judged for balance by, Amba Lamb of Jacques Scott, Simon Crompton of The Cayman Cocktail Club, Freya Palesch of The Cracked Conch and Chef Maureen Cubbon of Zest. All are welcome to join us and cheer the girls on!
The Final 8 will go on to compete in the finals at Lillies on October 21st. Doors will open at 7pm with the first 2 competitors going head to head at 8pm. The competition will continue in knockout rounds until we are left with just 1.
